Current state of the Mexican distillates and liquors industry

The distillate and liquor industry has enjoyed constant growth in the last few years, truly solidifying it´s position in the market.

According to data from the National Chamber of the Industry of Transformation (CANACINTRA in Spanish), the alcoholic beverages market made an estimated $2.2 billion US dollars revenue in 2019, and it´s estimated to reach $3.4 billion in 2024.

One of the main factors driving this growth is the demand for handcrafted products.

Especially for mezcal, tequila and raicilla, all emblematic Mexican drinks, which by now are not only popular in their home country but have also gained great popularity abroad.

A good example of this last point is the production of tequila and its value, which according to the head of the National Chamber for the Tequila Industry, Luis Fernando Félix.

In 2023 the volume of production could reach a 6% growth, with prices maybe surpassing that percentage.

All thanks to the growing foreign demand and inflation, respectively.

Also, the liquor industry has experienced diversification in terms of products and brands, with an ample variety of liquors to be found in the market, from the most traditional ones to the experimental, like fruit liquors or herb distillates.

In summary, the liquor and distillate industry owes its growth to the increasing demand for high quality, handcrafted products and its positioning in international markets. Thus, promising a bright future for Mexican producers.
